In June, the PCC agreed to a new service pattern, starting on Sunday 14th October.
Once a month, on the second Sunday, (except for those four months when we have Mothering Sunday, Fathers’ Day, Harvest, and Remembrance Sunday), for a trial period of 18 months, there would be a different format to the 10 am Communion Service.
Part 1 a free standing, themed Service of the Word; (35minutes)
Part 2 the Peace and coffee (25mins);
Part 3 celebration of Holy Communion, including a 3 minute sermon(30 mins)
So, on Sunday October 14th, come to any or all of:
10:00 Explore the theme: Wealth
10:35 Coffee in the hall – meet and talk
11:00-11:30 Holy Communion
We have received the ‘AUTUMN’ leaflets to be delivered throughout the Parish, advertising Harvest and Back to Church Sunday.
This is very worthwhile – we do get positive feedback from people throughout the Parish.
Please will you take a road (or three) and deliver them as soon as possible.
They are in Church from this coming Sunday and I have a supply here at 24 Stratford Road.
Thank you – a Big THANK YOU

The Bike’n’Hike is an annual event which raises funds both for the Beds and Herts Historic Churches Trust and for our own church. If you would like to take part, or if you could offer an hour or two welcoming people as they come to St Andrew’s, please talk to David Gosden. And Deborah and Matthew Gosden are looking for sponsors!
And/or please come and help us clear up our church-yard – in honour of visiting cyclists and in honour of Sarah and Daniel’s wedding in the afternoon.
We’ll be working from 10am until 1pm, with brunch around 11am.
There has been a series of frauds committed in the St Albans area over recent weeks, always using precisely the same method.
The offender targets church members, approaching people at or outside churches or church halls & appearing upset and frantic for help. He tells them that his mother has died that morning on the island of Jersey and that he is in desperate need of funds to get out there to identify the body and bring her home.
He explains that his mother was a member of their church and lived locally until recently.
He quotes the details of several of the church’s local ministers to add validity to his story but these people happen to be on holiday at the time so it appears that he has done some preparatory research.
He quotes information about churches which is quite accurate.
It is possible he may call on homes as well.
He is EXTREMELY plausible, cries when recalling his mother, gives his name as ‘John Williams’ and passes a mobile phone number when asked. He will even quote addresses that are local. Please do contact the Police on 999 immediately if he approaches you with this story. He is described as follows: White Male aged 30-35 years 5’4” to 5’8” tall with a slim build, fair hair cut about ear length. Last seen wearing a blue hoody with white writing and dark jeans. Anyone who has any information regarding this man can call the Police non emergency number on 101 – Northants Police reference NP/23988/12
Resurfacing of the church yard will take place on Saturday, 18th August.
Whilst the surface will be suitable to walk on on Sunday, it will not be hard enough to take car traffic.
Therefore, PLEASE park ALL cars in Park Road or Church Road.
We don’t want to damage the new surface before it has time to set.
Please note there will be NO 8 am COMMUNION SERVICE on Sunday 12 August.
We’ve been asked by a member of our church to publicise this event.
She says ” It should be a really interesting talk – the speaker is the Regius Professor of Divinity, Cambridge – and has some really interesting perspectives from the little I’ve read – beyond the pro vs anti gay stuff, looking at the issues as a whole.”
There are wine and nibbles as well as theology!
